Best Practices in BIP; ICADV's Annual Batterer Intervention
Program Training Date: September 26,

Association, 1845 W 18th Street, Indianapolis, IN (across the carpark from
ICADV) What: ICADV is offering a one day
workshop for providers who work with individuals who batter. This workshop will
explore best practices in working with a domestic violence service agency as a
monitor, providing partner contact, and in advocating for use of batterer
intervention programs in court sentencing. Who Should Attend: Batterer
Intervention Program facilitators, domestic violence counselors, advocates,
probation officers, and other professionals who work with
batterers. Cost: This training is free for certified batterer intervention programs
and facilitators. ICADV Partner and Provider member programs may attend for
$15. Nonmembers may attend for $35. Individuals

Domestic
Violence: Educating, Understanding and Responding. The Role of the Faith
Community, Sponsored by The Indiana Partnership to Prevent Violence Injury
and Death and Not to Believers Like Us. Date:

Theological Seminary, 1000 W 42nd Street, Indianapolis, IN. What: Many persons in distress turn to their faith leader
for help. This provides a crucial window for faith leaders to intervene and
provide information and resources that could prevent a violent event in that
person's life. IPPVID and N2BLU are partnering to host the final roundtable in
a two-year effort to reach out to the faith community and engage its members in
the discussion about ending domestic violence. This three day conference will
provide a wealth of opportunities to learn about all aspects of domestic
violence. Who
Should Attend: While the conference itself is aimed at engaging leaders in
the various faith communities, domestic violence service professionals, and the
community at large would greatly benefit from the information being given at

26th Annual Fall Conference:

educator and antiviolence activist; and Susan Still, whose dramatic and
inspiring story of survival has touched the hearts of millions across the
United States through her appearances on Oprah and 20/20. The agenda of 25 interactive workshops promises to provide best
practices across the spectrum of work with survivors. And, there is fun to be
had as well. Funshops will include Urban Line Dancing and Card Making.
And, for the 10th year, ICADV will host its annual Silent Auction and Reception
on Tuesday, Oct 21st. The silent auction will run from 8 am - 8 pm, culminating
in our reception and live auction. Who Should
Attend: Advocates, DV Program Administrators, Law Enforcement Officers,
Prosecutors, Attorneys, Batterer Intervention Providers, Health Care Workers,
Social Workers, Family Counselors, and any others who wish to end the epidemic
of domestic violence by educating themselves and others. Continuing education
credits will be available for many of the above listed professionals.

In Our Own
Best Interest; A Process for Personal & Social Change, Cosponsored by
ICADV and the Center for Nonviolence. When:
November 17th and 18th, 2008; 8:30 am - 5:00 pm daily Location: Indiana Community Action Association, 1845 W.
18th Street, Indianapolis, IN (across the carpark from ICADV)
What: For Women Only, A two-day training on the
Duluth Curriculum, In Our Best Interest, introduces an educational model
facilitating groups for women who have been battered. The training examines
personal, institutional, and cultural action to end violence against women and
connects how racism, sexism, homophobia, and classism contribute to violence
against women. Participants will immerse themselves in role-plays, exercises,
skits, and discussions about the In Our Best Interest curriculum
philosophy. Topics will include what it means to be an advocate and teacher,
using education to promote change through liberating group process, moving from
education to action, and examining personal power vs. "power over".
Cost: Fee to attend is

Creating a
Process of Change for Men Who Batter. The Duluth Model, Level 1,
Cosponsored by ICADV and the Center for Nonviolence. When: November 19 -21, 2008; 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
daily Location: Indiana Community Action
Association, 1845 W. 18th Street, Indianapolis, IN (across the carpark from
ICADV) What: A three-day basic level
training for men's nonviolence class facilitators. This workshop provides a
theoretical framework for working with men who batter. You will experience
demonstrations of how to facilitate structured, interactive nonviolence classes
using the Duluth Model curriculum, as well as hands-on practice. The training
includes:
- How an offender program fits
within an interagency community response
- Building relationships with
courts, victim advocates and battered women
- Prioritizing victim safety and
holding offenders accountable
- The art of dialogue in a men's
class while avoiding collusion
- Using control logs, exercises and videos
- Using role-plays and teaching non-controlling
behaviors
